Clackamas County DA Shares Report on Fatal Police Shooting During Happy Valley Hostage CrisisSource: Google Street View

The Clackamas County District Attorney's Office has released details of a deadly police shooting that occurred during a hostage rescue operation on April 30 in Happy Valley, which resulted in the death of 45-year-old Andy Song. As per the preliminary report, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance after Song reportedly took his family hostage with a knife and threatened their lives.

The deputies arrived to find the home reeking of gasoline and learned that Song had doused parts of the residence with the fuel and was threatening arson. Following standard protocol, fire and rescue were put on standby, and the Clackamas County SWAT was called in, the District Attorney's office stated. Despite hours of negotiation efforts led by multiple crisis teams, Song's willingness to peacefully resolve the incident seemed null.

According to the DA's office, Song's behavior escalated to the point where he became increasingly violent towards his wife and children, prompting the tactical units to intervene. Officials say Song was seen brandishing a knife and attempting to ignite a lighter during the standoff. Ultimately, when he purportedly posed an imminent threat to the hostages, the officers were forced to take lethal action.

In the wake of the shooting, the children and their mother were safely rescued by law enforcement officials. Investigators discovered gasoline poured throughout the home and an improvised incendiary device. The DA's office announced that a full investigation led by multiple agencies is underway, with most personnel already interviewed. Detectives Jesse Unck of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and Officer Charles Wujcik of the Beaverton Police Department, the officers involved in the shooting, have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a Grand Jury review.

With the case not yet presented before a Clackamas County Grand Jury, the District Attorney's Office has refrained from commenting further on the incident. Detailed information on the ongoing investigation and the circumstances leading up to the fatal shooting are available on the Clackamas County website.
