Miami Woman in High-Speed Chase Crashes Car to Nab Alleged Thief, Suspect ChargedSource: Miami-Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation

A Miami woman found herself in the aftermath of a car wreck while in hot pursuit of a suspect who allegedly helped himself to her possessions, according to Miami Police. The high-speed chase came to a crashing halt at Northwest Second Avenue and 22nd Lane, where responders found not just a traffic accident but a fiery confrontation.

The episode, captured on surveillance video and shared by NBC Miami, unfolded when the woman, working nearby, was tipped off to the burglary. Upon discovering her shattered car window and missing belongings, she spotted the perp sporting her Nike drawstring backpack and set off in chase. Police report she was so focused on him that a collision was inevitable.

The video portrays the victim extricating herself from the wreckage, undaunted, proceeding to apprehend the suspect on a Wynwood sidewalk. Mid-struggle, law enforcement arrived, putting cuffs on 41-year-old Luis Machado. Machado faces charges including burglary, criminal mischief, and petty theft after admitting to possession of the stolen goods yet denying the break-in, according to WSVN.

"He admitted to having some of the victims property but then he claims he didn’t know how the property became in his possession, which obviously were conflicting statements that didn’t make sense,” Kiara Delva of Miami PD told NBC Miami. Remarkably, no severe injuries stemmed from the crash.
