San Diego residents can expect slightly cooler temperatures today compared to Tuesday, with coastal areas seeing highs in the mid to upper 60s and valleys up to around 80 degrees, as reported by NWS Forecast. The Apple and Lucerne Valleys are on track for mid 70s to lower 80s while the lower deserts swelter in the upper 80s to mid 90s. Heading up to the mountains? Prepare for the cooler weather, with temperatures mostly in the 60s and lower 70s, with elevations from 4500 to 7000 feet.

According to the Area Forecast Discussion by the National Weather Service San Diego, "The marine layer has deepened with widespread coastal low clouds extending inland across all of the valleys." Thursday and Friday are slated for a slight warm-up, with coastal and valley temperatures a few degrees warmer than Wednesday. Meanwhile, the deserts are expected to maintain their sizzling temperatures with little change forecasted.

Over the weekend, a low-pressure system will cruise through southern California, prompting a significant temperature drop. "Sunday with high temperatures for the mountains around 15 degrees below average," the NWS highlights. Additionally, stronger and gustier southwest to west winds will kick up dust in the mountains and deserts from late Saturday through Sunday. A slight chance of precipitation is on the table from the coast to the mountains for late Saturday night into Sunday, so keep those umbrellas handy.

Mariners, take note: while no hazardous marine conditions are anticipated through Friday, the tune changes over the weekend as "Gusty northwest winds will develop Saturday into Sunday," per the National Weather Service San Diego. As for aviation interests, pilots can expect low cloud cover with bases ranging from 1500 to 2500 feet MSL this morning, causing some visibility restrictions. The clearing is scheduled to commence between 15-17z across inland areas and 17-19z along the coast. But those clouds will roll right back in after 01z Thursday.
