DeKalb County bigwig Michael Thurmond is set to give his swan song with tickets for his final State of the County flying off the shelves. After eight years at the helm, CEO Thurmond will deliver the keynote titled "Lessons Learned" at a packed house on Thursday. The address, anticipated by more than 650 ticket holders, is geared to outline his retrospective insights and foresights for the county's path ahead.

The sold-out event, hosted by the Council for Quality Growth and DeKalb Chamber of Commerce, is a testament to Thurmond's influence, having been celebrated as a catalyst for the county's business and residential success. With the event now oversubscribed, local honchos and community stakeholders are set to rub shoulders, celebrating his tenure. "DeKalb County continues to be a thriving place for businesses and residents alike," said Michael Paris, president and CEO of the Council for Quality Growth, as DeKalb County News reports.

The luncheon will also serve as a platform to honor prominent community figures. The spotlight will shine on the careers and societal contributions of three notable locals: Elizabeth Wilson, the former mayor of Decatur; Cynthia Jones Parks, president and CEO of Jones Worley; and Monica Maldonado, president and CEO of IPCOMM.

Beyond the farewell address itself, the business luncheon will double as a showcase for DeKalb's latest economic advancements under Thurmond's watch. Paris, representing an organization that has steadfastly supported Thurmond's vision, is keen to mark this occasion with a nod to the progress achieved. "We’re excited to showcase the newest economic engine here in DeKalb for CEO Thurmond’s outgoing address. The Council commends the leadership of Michael Thurmond during his tenure as CEO," Paris told DeKalb County News.
