According to Maricopa's own reporting, Fire Chief Brad Pitassi and Police Chief Mark Goodman are unwavering in their belief that the city is prepared to face emergency situations, thanks in large part to consistent investment in public safety training initiatives.
The two chiefs credit these educational events and rigorous training programs for not only sharpening the response capabilities of Maricopa's first responders but also for empowering local citizens with the knowledge to actively partake in their own protection, Fire Chief Pitassi explained, events like "Don't Crash the Prom," create an immersive experience for high school students to witness the dramatic reenactment of a DUI crash, with the aim of instilling a lasting preventive mindset with regards community safety.
Police Chief Goodman emphasizes the notion that ensuring public safety is a collaborative effort, and states, "My utmost hope is that DUI crashes and the tragedies portrayed in events like 'Don't Crash the Prom' never become a reality in our community, however in public safety we must prepare for the worst while striving for the best," Goodman conveyed this sentiment in a conversation with Maricopa's news team.
Beyond these simulation exercises, the fire and police departments engage in comprehensive training on a regular basis, firefighters hone their skills through routine crew training and attend quarterly regional training with Phoenix Automatic Aid partners, they cover a litany of emergency response protocols from wildland fire to high-rise rescue, with Police Chief Goodman expressing commitment to ample training as well, "By investing in these critical areas of expertise we equip our officers with the tools to navigate complex situations with empathy, understanding, and above all, a commitment to preserving life and promoting peaceful resolutions," Goodman told Maricopa's reporters.
