A single-seat plane became a fiery wreck on Monday afternoon near Castroville Airport, landing its pilot in a hospital bed. According to Fox San Antonio, the crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. when police were alerted to the downed aircraft. The pilot managed to extract himself from the doomed craft just in time, before flames consumed it.

The identity of the aviator has not been disclosed, and while details about his condition were not immediately available, it's known that he was rushed to an area hospital following the incident. 

No further casualties were reported, according to KTSA, with the Medina County EMS confirming that the pilot was the sole individual involved. The field where the plane went down is currently under investigation by local authorities. The cause of the crash remains a mystery, with both the Federal Aviation Administration and local police declining to speculate until more information has been unearthed.
