A San Antonio man's routine disturbed by a noise in the wee hours found himself critically wounded after confronting an alleged vehicle tamper outside his home, police reported. The incident, which transpired on the 900 block of Wyoming Street, close to East Commerce Street, escalated rapidly as the man stepped out around 2 a.m. Wednesday to check on the disturbance, according to CBS affiliate KENS 5.

The victim, a man in his 30s, confronted the suspect he claimed was 'messing with' his car, and in a violent turn of events the suspect slashed his throat with a knife, then made his getaway on a bicycle. The Police have yet not apprehended the perpetrator police confirmed they had stopped several individuals on bikes, though none fit the suspect's description.

The injured man was rushed to the Brooke Army Medical Center and remains in critical condition as the San Antonio Police Department continues to investigate according to details from ABC affiliate KSAT. Multiple agencies responded to the scene early Wednesday, with the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS units joining police officers to aid the victim, whose confrontation with a lurking figure near his vehicle turned into a life-threatening emergency. The investigation is still ongoing.
