Vallejo and Benicia Rocked by Freeway Shootout and Manhunt, Two Arrested Facing Attempted Murder ChargesSource: Google Street View

Chaos erupted on the streets of Benicia last month when two suspects engaged in a firearm-fueled flight from the law, resulting in a frantic manhunt that ended with their apprehension. According to Hoodline, David Ochoa Magana, a 39-year-old Vallejo resident, is now facing attempted murder charges, among other serious offenses, after the high-speed pursuit and shootout with the police.

The Automated License Plate Reader system flagged a vehicle linked to an armed robbery on March 15, when authorities attempted a traffic stop, Magana and his associate, Javon Bryce Floyd Dickerson, 33, allegedly fired at officers and sped off, leading to a collision and a chase on foot along the 780 freeway. With the suspects crashing their vehicles and Dickerson retreating to freeway median bushes, where they found him, the takedown lasted until the wee hours as law enforcement from several jurisdictions and SWAT teams pooled resources in their hunt. The freeway closure stretched to the next morning.

Further investigation by the Vallejo Police Department led to a grim connection for Magana. With assistance from the Solano County Major Crimes Task Force, their detectives discovered he was also the primary suspect in an unrelated case. As detailed in a Vallejo Police Department press release, a follow-up investigation at a residence on Garnet Circle on March 16 revealed a deceased adult male, a crime for which Magana was charged when evidence surfaced while he was already incarcerated.

The violent chain of events has left both suspects behind bars as they face a slew of charges, including the attempted murder of a police officer. Magana could return to prison as a felon caught with a firearm, and Dickerson could see his probation revoked. All this transpires without injury to law enforcement or civilian bystanders.
