Secretly Awesome: SF Photo Center

Do you have even a casual interest in photography? Maybe you have some old film you never developed, or some slides you need to scan? Or perhaps you just enjoy sitting in the dark surrounded by chemicals?

Whatever the reason, you need to know about the SF Photo Center.

Tucked inside the Harvey Milk Recreational Arts Building at 50 Scott St, the Photo Center features a darkroom, portrait studio, exhibition space, and digital lab.

They also offer a number of summer classes, from single-day workshops to multi-week courses. Topics include stuff like photo composition, understanding your digital SLR, and an intro to Photoshop.

Membership to the Center is $50 for 6 months, plus $5 for each visit — or $250 unlimited access for the year. Additional discounts for seniors and kids, naturally.

So what's the catch? Well, as with almost anything worth funding in this city, the Photo Center is under threat from the budget axe. So check them out, help spread the word, and make sure this great resource stays right here in the neighborhood where it belongs.

The SF Photo Center — now that's what we call... Secretly Awesome!
