Local Clothing Company, Marine Layer, Moving into 498 Hayes
Mike Natenshon and Adam Lynch are bringing their clothing line, Marine Layer, to 498 Hayes to provide us with their locally designed and locally made t-shirts. With a company mission of creating "a new favorite tee that was perfectly soft and great fitting right out of the gates," the owners are launching their second store after opening for business in 2011 on Chestnut Street.

After talking to Mike and Adam, we learned that what makes Marine Layer unique is that in addition to the clothes being designed in San Francisco, they're also made here at a shop in the Mission. Along with specializing in t-shirts, Marine Layer makes polos, jackets, sweaters and scarves for men and women that are crafted for a day of hanging out or gallivanting around town. They just got the keys last week, so it may be a month or two before they open for business. We'll let you know when that happens. In the meantime, check out their men's and women's goods on their website.

At a major intersection in Hayes Valley, 498 Hayes sits across from Patricia's Green and has been the home of a few major things over the years. In the 1920s it housed the French American Bank (see above). The 1990s brought us a showcase of blown glass. And for the last few years, it has been the gallery of famed New Orleans artist, Michalapoulos.
Marine Layer will open just before our other marine layer hits town so make sure to stock up for summer.
