Flywheel, at 672 Stanyan (next to Whole Foods), opened last Friday -- that's right, on 4/20. Owners Aquiles and Marissa seemed unfazed by the mayhem, and excited to talk to us about what's next.

First off, the space, if you haven't seen it, is impressive. It's spacious bordering on enormous, and will only get bigger once the renovations are finished. The back of the building, under the loft, will have seating, and they'll also have a patio out back. In the meantime, there are plenty of benches and tables, as well as some chairs on the sidewalk out front, for optimal Golden Gate Park people-watching. Generally, the space has a cool, minimalist, industrial, Soma-like feel to it, and we can't wait to see it finished.
They're also awaiting their roaster, which is on the way. Once it's installed, they'll be doing coffee tastings and roastery tours, for anyone curious about a day in the life of a coffee bean. They may do a grand opening once the roaster is up and running, and they promise to let us know about it.
