Last Night's HVNA Meeting (Told Through the Lyrics of N*Sync)
The Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association (HVNA) met last night for their monthly meeting. Here's a recap of what we learned, as told through the lyrics of 90s teenage heartthrob Justin Timberlake and his former band, N*Sync.

Agesong Cafe & Upcoming Plans // "I'll Be Good For You" I’ll be good for you I ain’t gonna take my love away And I will love you more girl every day I’ll be good for you (yeah) Baby girl it’s plain to see, That our love was meant to be Cafe Altano moved out of 601 Hayes a few months ago and Agesong, a senior residential community located on the same block, wants to utilize the property for something fun for the community. After several restaurants have leased the space and not succeeded, they're exploring different possibilities. They've tried putting on different theater and jazz programs for the community. And every Tuesday at 1:15pm, you can create art with elders through The Toy Project where you make and paint toys and give them back to kids. But they haven't settled on anything permanent. They're taking ideas for how best to use the space. If you have any, let them know. They don't wanna take their love away. They just want to love (our community) more each day.
Public Safety // "This I Promise You" And I will take You in my arms And hold you right where you belong Till the day my life is through This I promise you The Public Safety committee has worked hard to take Hayes Valley in its arms and protect them from all sorts of crimes. A meeting was recently held with six city departments and multiple other associations to discuss resources available for residents. The HVNA has created several Safety Bulletins that describe resources for businesses, families and children. They will be making copies and distributing them around the community. And we'll be putting the information on Hayeswire soon.
Transportation & Planning // "Pop" It doesn’t matter ’bout the car I drive Or what I wear around my neck All that matters Is that you recognize That it’s just about respect The Transportation & Planning committee is probably the largest and most happening committee within the HVNA. And by "happening" we mean "constantly busy since the neighborhood has so much going on." That kind of happening. The Planning Commission approved the development plans for Parcel O yesterday, a block of space that's currently occupied by the Hayes Valley Farm. Some members of the committee had been part of the discussions and were enthusiastic about a few things: the architecture of the new housing, the restoration of the alley, and bike parking on site. Some other major projects they're talking about are 55 Laguna (they recently did a walkthrough) and the changes taking place at 100 Van Ness. Whether you walk everywhere, drive a car, rent your studio or own your house, it's just about respecting the T&P committee and all the work they're doing for Hayes Valley.
What did we learn from this exercise? That boy bands write a lot of songs about being in love. Or not being in love. Or wanting someone back. We hope you enjoyed this Friday's Digital Get Down. Now it's time for us to go Bye, Bye, Bye. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qnkwrq39HXw
