Curbed posted a story yesterday featuring three rentals in the Lower Haight, and it got us thinking -- when did things get this bad?

As Curbed rightly notes, "usually there's very little availability in the Lower Haight," a point that's emphasized by the three listings they were able to find in the neighborhood. They are:

• A $1695 studio described as "funky" -- an adjective which, in our experience, rarely bodes well
• An $1800 junior one-bedroom, the listing for which has since been deleted
• And an admittedly spectacular 3BR, 3BA house on Pierce near Duboce Park, renting for the dream-killing price of $9000 a month.

As of this morning, there are only three apartments for rent on Craigslist in the entire Lower Haight. One of those is on Octavia, so that doesn't even count (sorry Octavians), and another is a 3-bedroom for a whopping $5345. The third is the aforementioned funky studio. Having not searched for a place in the neighborhood recently, what we want to know is, when did things get this bad? What, if anything, can be done about it?
