Yesterday, the Urban Air Market took over Haight Street from Fillmore to Pierce. Here are Haighteration contributor Beth Thomas's photos and observations from the scene.
So yesterday was pretty amazing. The fog cleared around 12pm, and the weather was gorgeous. The event covered 2 blocks between Fillmore and Pierce Streets. There were lots of clothes and jewelry, mostly by local vendors, but some from other parts of the Bay Area. There was a DJ, as well as several street musicians scattered throughout. The crowd was mixed with Lower Haighters, parents with kids, pets, and people of all ages. There was a great energy in the air, and I hope that this happens more frequently in our neighborhood. As far as local business go, it was a success. Molotov's and Uva Enoteca both saw an increase in customers. Uva owner Boris Nemchenok sold gelato outside the restaurant and saw an increase in brunch, happy hour and dinner. He hopes the Urban Air Market comes back annually, or even quarterly! Around 7 pm the cool wind had picked up, and the vendors began packing up. Overall, I feel it was a well-coordinated event, and a success for the neighborhood. Everyone seemed to be having fun, and and the vendors I spoke with were excited about their products being sold. Here are some of our photos of the day's festivities: That's it for our pics!
