Behind the Walls at Haight and LagunaFlickr/Bennett Honson
We start 2013 with a rare -- and eerie -- glimpse inside the shuttered campuses at Haight and Laguna.

In the last few decades of the 20th Century, the property was home to both the UC Berkeley Extension campus and the French-American School. The latter moved to Hayes Valley in 1997, while the former relocated downtown in December of 2003. The buildings have been vacant ever since. A couple of days ago, Haighteration reader Bennett Honson was passing by the property when he noticed an open gate. Curious, he ventured inside. Bennett shared a few photos he snapped of the property, now in a creepy state of neglect. In November of 2012, some crucial funding came through for a development that will bring 110 units of LGBT-friendly senior housing to the property. Construction is expected to begin early this year.
