Flashback: What Was the Trips Festival?
Time for a history lesson, kids. Do you know what the Trips Festival was?

We didn't, either. But in one of our periodic vault-dives into the archives, we stumbled across it. Before Coachella, before Burning Man, before the "festival format" for light shows and enormous concerts, there was the Trips Festival, a weekend that took place at the Longshoremen's Hall, January 21 to 23, 1966. Local filmmaker Eric Christensen has documented the experience, here, and we recommend reading up on it. The Festival as we know it, it turns out, has been around for quite some time--and we're not even talking about Woodstock. (They even had raver toys! Watch below.) If you're ready to feel a little woozy, here's some raw footage from the festival, coming to you straight from 1966. It is FASCINATING. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-67Vb3dSEoU
