New Life for 1640 Haight Street

Remember when Bia's closed, way back when? The storefront at 1640 has been empty since, and if you're like us you've been more than a little curious.

We hopped a couple of fences and snooped around to bring some news to you, dear readers.

According to the landlord and based on what we've seen, the space has been leased out to a new restaurant venture and is slated to open some time in February.

After the former tenant's sudden closure last September the space stood empty for a few weeks before being gutted, renovated and painted. From what we've seen the new interior is pretty swank, and includes a handsome high iron-and-wood bar, new paint and fixtures on the walls, a new redwood deck out back and a cleaner transition from the front dining space to the back patio.

Word on the street is, the new tenants are going to be a purveyor of craft brews, although we've also heard it might be a wine bar.
