The Upper Haight Farmer's Market is Coming
In just over a month, the Upper Haight Farmer's Market opens for its 2013 season. We know we can't wait, so we thought maybe if we told you all about it we could speed Spring along.

You might know that the Farmer's Market convenes every Wednesday from 3-7pm at the corner of Stanyan and Waller. You might even know that April 3rd will be the first Wednesday of their 2013 season. But what you might not know is that it's more than just a place to get awesome fresh veggies. We talked to Jeff Jelsma, the Market Manager of the Upper Haight Farmer's Market, who wanted to get some excitement brewing for the UHFM's fourth season here in the neighborhood. This year, the market boasts 25 producers, ranging from right here in San Francisco to all the way down at Bakersfield. In addition to fresh produce, there's also prepared food, like La Selva Taqueria, Home Made Ravioli, and the gluten-free FlourChylde bakery. They'll have special events every Wednesday, like cooking demonstrations, music, and even some yoga. On their first Wednesday (April 3rd), they'll have a celebration for the 25th anniversary of the Pacific Coast Farmer's Market Association, their parent organization. And even if you don't go for the extras, the Farmer's Market is still a great way to keep the food you eat local. As Jeff put it, "I believe farmers’ markets are a great way to educate people on the importance of locally sourced food, and supporting small farms."
