We have some updates on Saturday night's fire on the 600 block of Haight Street.
The fire originated at 625 Haight Street, which is one of the units located above Merch. KTVU cites an SFFD spokeswoman as estimating the damage to that unit as $250,000, plus an additional $100,000 (!) to the unit's contents. The fire spread to an adjacent unit at 631 Haight and caused $50,000 worth of damage there, for a total of $400,000. Yong Cho, owner of Merch, told us on Sunday morning that the shop was "smoky with a fine layer of soot on all flat surfaces, but fine." Merch was able to reopen Sunday afternoon. Finally, the fire was reported at 11:35pm and extinguished by 12:15am, and there were no injuries -- yet another fine performance by the SFFD. We'll update with any additional details.
