Progress Report: Alembic and the Red Vic
We saw the signs of progress at 1725 and 1727, so we checked in for a progress report.

When the Red Vic Movie House closed last spring and started undergoing renovations over the summer, we heard all about expansion plans for Alembic. And we were excited. So excited. Now, it appears that Alembic is preparing for its chrysalis phase: the plywood is up, the carpenters are hanging around, the building owner is getting ready to transition the space. We spoke with one of the building's owners, Jack Rix, yesterday. He said the construction is expected to take about six months, all told. He said the plan is to keep Alembic open for as much of the process as possible. The second wall will be built before the extant wall comes down, and although the kitchen might close briefly while it expands into the new space (behind where the current bathrooms are), the bar should will be open as long as possible. What does the new space promise, you ask? The answer: a bigger kitchen, more seating and a more generous space. We're looking forward to seeing how it comes along.
