We'd noticed some stirrings last week at 1597 Haight. Yesterday, Behind Closed Doors, Haight Street's first sex shop, opened for business with balloons and rose petals galore. Just in time for Valentine's Day.

The store is a proper sex shop, like the ones dotting the Castro. They sell everything from sex toys and paraphernalia to corsets and other unmentionables. We didn't take any NSFW pictures, because this is a family show, but here's a taste of the aesthetic. 1597 Haight is Behind Closed Doors' only location. We spoke with owner Nikole Taeotui, who told us that they might do a grand opening party in the future. Of course, we'll keep you posted on that. They're open 11:30-8 every day except Tuesday (sorry), so get in there and check it out.
