Follow-Up: Dog Shooting at Alvord Lake
We know, we know: we promised a photo competition. And that's still coming. But first, we want to provide a follow-up to yesterday's story.

Since the shooting of a homeless person's pit bull at 5 o'clock Monday afternoon the SFPD have yet to release an official press statement about the incident. We already spoke to some witnesses at the scene who heard the incident, saw the ensuing fuss and spoke to the first-responding police officers. Since then, we've spoken to Lt. Kaplan at the SFPD Park Station. Asked about the incident, he confirmed the report the SFPD press contact delivered to major news outlets. The officer on duty at Alvord Lake, he said, was called over to a young man passed out on the lawn. When he tried to speak to the man, Lt. Kaplan said, the dog "did what most dogs would do: he tried to protect his owner." Asked about whether, and how badly, the responding officer was injured, Lt. Kaplan said, "the officer said that the dog bit him so he shot him. I guess he was bit on the leg but he was all right."
