Oak Street Bike Lane Delayed, Again
Sad news, Wigglers -- completion of the Fell and Oak Bikeways project has been pushed back from next month to the end of the year.

As Streetsblog reported on Wednesday, designation of a bike lane on Oak Street has been delayed, primarily due to construction at the Kelly Moore Paint store at the corner of Oak and Divisadero (pictured above). The project has been in the works for almost two years, but the targeted completion date has repeatedly slipped, due to design changes and opposition from a handful of residents. The current design was finally approved in October, and the green bike lane on Fell began taking shape in November. Oak Street's bike lane was supposed to follow shortly thereafter, with the whole project wrapping up by May. But, here we are in April, and many elements of the plan have yet to be started, let alone completed. Those include converting parking spots on Baker Street from a parallel to an angled layout, and installing concrete barriers on Fell Street to separate the bikeway from traffic. It's unclear why the Kelly Moore construction would delay any of those improvements. The Examiner cites SFMTA transportation director Ed Reiskin as saying that temporary "soft-hit" pylons will be installed on Fell as an interim solution. So, now we're looking at "the end of the year" as the timeframe for when this project might be completed. For now, we have a green bike lane on Fell, some improved striping, and that's about it. We'll keep an eye on it.
