Breaking: Protestors Occupy Hayes Valley Farm
A group of about 30 protestors has broken into the just-closed Hayes Valley Farm this afternoon, in an effort to "liberate the land."

The protest follows a march which began at 1pm at Gough and Eddy. The march was organized to protest the planned conversion of a site in Istanbul, Turkey known as Gezi Park into a shopping mall. Earlier this week, protestors in Turkey occupied Gezi Park, and despite clashes with police were able to win a temporary injunction to halt the park's destruction. Today's march was meant to show solidarity with the protestors in Turkey. It apparently concluded at Hayes Valley Farm, where, at 2:49pm, Occupy Oakland announced that they had broken the locks of the farm's gates and entered the space: While the Gezi Park occupation seems to be the main focus of the protest, other issues raised in banners and signs around the farm include Monsanto, monoculture, and privatization in general. Here are some of our pics from the scene.
We're not sure how long the protestors intend to remain at the site, which they're renaming "Gezi Gardens" -- but at least one participant seems to indicate that they're prepared for a long stay: We'll update with any developments.
