At approximately 10:35pm tonight, a red Jeep Grand Cherokee and a taxi SUV collided at the intersection of Oak and Gough.

Each of the vehicles ended up spinning out of control and onto the sidewalk. The collision left the Jeep by the French American International School, while the taxi ended up across the street.
Both cars suffered extensive damage. Witnesses told us that there was one person in the Jeep and a driver and passenger in the taxi. Paramedics, police and firefighters arrived on the scene around 10:40pm. Within minutes, victims were put on stretchers, the Jeep (which was smoking) was doused, and police began interviewing witnesses. Most of the people we talked to had heard the collision from their nearby apartments. One commenter on Facebook called it the "biggest traffic accident noise I've heard around here in 28 years." According to several residents of apartments around the scene, it appears that the Jeep ran the red light down Oak and then struck the taxi, and some witnesses said the cab rolled over. We can't confirm those details at this time, however. As we learn more about the status of the victims and the exact details of what happened, we’ll keep you informed.
