P-Kok Becoming a Restaurant
It looks like the Lower Haight will soon be getting a new restaurant, albeit a small one.

Neighbors of the former P-Kok space at 791 Haight Street received a notice this week that the building's owner intends to turn it into a restaurant. The notice reads: "The proposal is to convert the existing retail space into a restaurant use within the existing footprint. No exterior modifications are proposed. The restaurant intends to operate between 7am and 7pm." A proposed floor plan for the new restaurant indicates a small seating area, with space for about ten two-tops:
The P-Kok shop at 791 Haight closed in May of 2011, though other P-Kok locations (including one across the street) remained open. In 2012, the address was home to D5 Supervisor candidate Thea Selby's campaign headquarters. The space has been vacant since last November. Neighbors now have 30 days to raise any concerns with the Planning Department. If there are no objections, the plans will be approved. No word yet on a possible tenant for the space, but you know we'll keep an eye on it. Thanks to Lawrence L. for the tip!
