The Grind Cafe Plans to Expand
Last week, we told you that the former P-Kok space at 791 Haight was being converted into a restaurant. Today we can confirm that the space's new tenant will in fact be the cafe next door, The Grind.

Grind owner Suheil Alaraj tells us that he envisions utilizing the new space mostly to serve the existing restaurant. Much of the 865-square-foot area will be used for things like food preparation, dishwashing, and storage. Taking those elements out of the main space at 783 Haight should free up room for at least a few more tables, Suheil says. The restaurant will also likely get some upgrades in the process, including new tiles and counters. One issue that hasn't been decided yet is what to do with the front area of the new space. Suheil says he imagines possibly using it as some sort of grab-and-go "Grind express" concept, offering items like pastries and coffee for customers who don't want to wait in line at the main cafe. He could even see using it as overflow seating for the restaurant during busy hours. All of this is contingent on various permits and answers from the city, so don't expect The Grind 2.0 to be unveiled for a few months at least. We'll update with any updates, naturally.
