Chaparral, the new pop-up restaurant at Kate's Kitchen, will officially make its debut this Thursday night, October 24th.

As we mentioned back in August, Chaparral is the brainchild of Thomas Martinez, formerly the executive chef at Mission Beach Cafe. Martinez will be setting up shop at 471 Haight Street on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. A sample menu posted on the restaurant's website reveals a number of tasty-sounding small plates and entrees, like:
  • wild greens, Beets, carrots, English Peas, Vardouvan shallots, sheep’s yogurt. ($11)
  • Lamb Tartare, saffron, smoked eggplant, Crème Fraiche, chili, sesame loaf. ($12)
  • sunchokes, grilled Monterey Squid, preserved lemon emulsion, Shashito peppers. ($14)
  • masa harina Gnocchi, confit tomato, harrisa-flageolet puree, Porcini and greens. ($18)
  • slow cooked Wild Salmon, cucumber, squash, fava, Chanterelles, chili-peas. ($22)
There are also three desserts on this inaugural menu. One thing that's missing: alcohol. The restaurant will be BYOB, at least to start. Chaparral will be open from 6pm to 11pm on Thursdays, and 6pm to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays. Reservations can be made online or by emailing [email protected].
