This Friday, construction of the new Boys & Girls Club at 344 Fulton Street will officially begin.
We first got word of the project back in February, when plans for the 4-story, 33,500-square-foot clubhouse were revealed. The new building will feature a swimming pool, gymnasium, art studio, and learning center. It replaces the current youth center in the Upper Haight, which has served the Boys & Girls Club since 1952. On Friday, a groundbreaking ceremony will be held at the site from 10:30am to noon. Guests are scheduled to include Mayor Ed Lee, District 5 Supervisor London Breed, and Boys & Girls Club of San Francisco president Rob Connolly. The public is invited to attend. If all goes as scheduled, the new clubhouse will open in early 2015.
