4/20: Planning Ahead
In response to last year's 4/20 chaos, Supervisor London Breed's office is preparing to issue a statement of preparatory measures to be taken in the neighborhood.

The word that Supervisor Breed's office was preparing measures to anticipate the crush of people expected this year for 4/20 (this year a Sunday, last year a Saturday) came in response to a neighbor's inquiry posed last week. In her response, Breed said, "We are currently working on the issue and will be happy to provide you with the information on our plans once they are final." Specific problems that arose last year included a medivac from Hippie Hill, traffic congestion in the Haight and on Oak Street, and contiguous park entrances and exits, an overtaxed public transit system, and a small riot that erupted at the corner of Belvedere and Haight (photo above). Possible solutions discussed last year include installing portable toilets in Golden Gate Park, boosting the police force on-site, adding public transport to the are. What do you think would help? We'll let you know what those plans include, naturally, when Supervisor Breed makes them public. In the meantime, have your thoughts heard by contacting Supervisor Breed directly, at london [dot] breed [at] sfgov [dot] org.
