One year ago today, Ernesto "Xe" Acosta was murdered near the intersection of Webster and Hayes, the victim of an apparent drive-by shooting. His killer remains at large.

Acosta was walking to a friend's house around 2am on the morning of February 10th, 2013 when he was gunned down. Police later said that they were seeking a white Lexus ES350 that was caught on a cab's dashboard camera speeding away from the scene. They believe the gunfire came from this car. Police also indicated that the gunfire might have been related to an event that was taking place at Yoshi's on Fillmore that night. The event was a birthday party for a local music producer named LaRon Mayfield. Police are hoping someone who attended the event might have information about the shooting. Last week, Acosta's older sister Amri emailed us with an update. Unfortunately, there has apparently been no progress in solving the case. "This has been the hardest thing my family has ever gone through," Amri wrote. "Knowing his killer is still out there is a very hard pill to swallow. I am not expecting a miracle but I am wishing someone out there has a [conscience] and by stimulating some memories maybe, just maybe, someone will listen to theirs and come forward." Amri added that she spoke to the lead detective in the case on Thursday. She was told that there have been no developments in the case, and no witnesses have reached out. "I feel so hopeless," Amri told us. "I don't live in SF and as his big sister I feel like I failed to keep him safe." Acosta's friends and family will be gathering today at 3:30pm in Alamo Square at Hayes and Pierce for a Peace Gathering and Walk in recognition of the anniversary of Acosta's death. The public is invited to attend. If you have any information that might be relevant in the case, you can call the SFPD's anonymous tip line at 415-575-4444.
