PUBLIC Bikes Closing Locations, Opening New Store In Hayes ValleyPhoto: PUBLIC Bikes
Hold on to your handlebars because we've got some big news.

Two weeks ago, we told you that Room Service moved out from 549 Hayes and we'd let you know when we found out about the new tenant.

Fast forward: We found out.

PUBLIC Bikes, the San Francisco-based bicycle and gear company, is moving to Hayes Valley, and they're bringing everything they own with them. They've announced they are consolidating their retail operations by closing both their South Park and Valencia locations and opening one bigger store at 549 Hayes Street.

While PUBLIC is an international company, with retail partners selling their products throughout the U.S. and Canada and bikes being delivered throughout the world, 35% of their sales take place here in the Bay Area.

When it comes to Hayes Valley, they sound excited to move here and become a part of the neighborhood.

Dan Nguyen-Tan of PUBLIC told us that "as PUBLIC continues to grow our lifestyle brand nationally, we hope that our new Hayes Street location will serve both the neighborhood, San Francisco at large, and also become a destination for out-of-towners familiar with PUBLIC."

He's also excited to be close to some other Hayes Valley institutions, mentioning that they look forward to "being good neighbors with so many merchant friends who we already know like Triple Aught Design, Propeller, Smitten Ice Cream, Streets of San Francisco Bike Tours, and others."

They're having a big sale a
s they close up their other two shops, too. All bikes from 2013 are discounted, starting at $199 for some models. Deals are only for in-store visits, so head over to either 123 South Park or 599 Valencia to check out what's left.

We're waiting to hear back about when they'll open, and we'll update the story here as soon as we find out.
