The Page Ups Their Pool Table Pricesphoto by ThomasHawk
A night out at The Page just got pricier.

No, the drink prices haven’t gone up—so you can still count on those four dollar Plinys at happy hour. However, if you intend to play a game of pool to pass the time as you slurp down your well-deserved libation, you’d better bring some extra cash. Why? Because pool games at The Page have gone from $1.00 to $1.25. Trust us, we were just as shocked as you were. How could this be? What happened to our quiet little bar room? Is this the beginning of the end for Divisadero? We all know that the weekend clientele has become a bit more, er, upscale, in recent times. However, none of us saw something like this coming by a long shot. But don’t worry. After our initial shock from this monumental increase subsided, we swung by The Page to do some real-deal investigative journalism. Not surprisingly, it confirmed our belief that the owner of The Page is far from a price-hiker. After all, the guy has a free pizza there from time to time as a gift to regulars, not as an incentive to attract new business. In reality, the reason behind the price increase has nothing to do with the ever chi-chier crowd flocking to Divisadero Street. It’s quite simple, actually. According to our sources, the quarter taking mechanisms on the pool tables were like 20 years old and kept breaking and needed to be replaced. When the company that serviced the tables came around, they only had the new $1.25 mechanisms in stock. It’s that simple. And although everyone likes a good reason to sound the alarm for the impending Valencification of a neighborhood, it’s not to be found in the pool tables at The Page.
