Plans to demolish the defunct Home restaurant at Church and Market are currently being explored.

The building could be torn down and replaced with a seven-story structure, according to a preliminary project assessment that's been requested this week from the city's Planning Department.

It's unclear who is behind the project, but the plans are summarized like so:

"Demolition of existing 2-story commercial building. New construction of a 7-story building to house approximately 64 residential units, approximately 4,700 square feet of retail on Market, 14th and Church Street. On grade parking for approximately 15 cars with car lifts."

It's important to note that preliminary project assessments like this don't necessarily mean that a project will come to fruition. They are a service the Planning Department provides to identify any potential obstacles and costs, should a property owner or developer choose to move forward.  So, this may not become a reality any time soon, if at all.

The property at 2100 Market Street has been empty since Home closed in August of 2011.  Last summer, Chipotle attempted to open a location at the site, but was rejected after much public opposition.
