The neighborhood is hosting the Hayes Valley Art Walk this Friday between 6pm-8pm. With many businesses already featuring or selling art, this event focuses on showcasing current and new exhibits by local artists as well as entertaining Hayes Valley residents and anyone else who wants to join us.
We caught up with Rhonel Roberts, who's helping coordinate the Art Walk. Aside from planning this event, he's had his art featured at La Boulange in the past and will have pieces up at Noir Lounge on Friday.
"I've seen other neighborhoods do this successfully and wanted to do it in Hayes Valley," he explained to us. "I live here and feel it's very artistic and trendy. I heard it had been done 20 years ago. It's time to rekindle it once again."
Rhonel said that the following businesses on Hayes Street will be participating on Friday:
- In Bed - HD Buttercup (597 Hayes)
- Noir Lounge (581 Hayes)
- Zonal Home (568 Hayes)
- Birch Flowers (564 Hayes)
- Propeller (555 Hayes)
- Fiddlesticks (540 Hayes)
- La Boulange (500 Hayes)
- Alternative Clothing (424 Hayes)
Don't stress if you can't memorize that list. All participating businesses will have this poster in their window if they're part of the Art Walk:
Russell Pritchard, owner of Zonal Home, told us some stores will have wine, snacks, and musical performances. His own store will feature Ryan Garcia on flamenco guitar.
Russell also shared news that Keyvan, owner of Nomads (which was supposed to close yesterday but is now remaining open until this Friday), will be spinning tunes as the DJ in the Hayes & Kebab outdoor seating area. The location was chosen to celebrate the hula hoop art on the fence, created by elementary school students at the Chinese International School.
