
The San Francisco Police tweeted this out at 4:30pm, letting everyone know about the heavy traffic (and helicopters) in the area:
ABC7 News first reported the person was struck and thrown into oncoming traffic:Vehicle collision at Haight St and Octavia St. Heavy traffic, Avoid area if possible.

The original report said that a pedestrian was struck and the driver initially remained at the scene. According to early 911 calls, the pedestrian was thrown into the street and the suspect might have fled the area in a white vehicle.#BREAKING: Pedestrian struck by vehicle near Haight & Octavia in SF after possibly being thrown into the street. ABC7 News crew on the way.

The most recent update is a correction to the SFPD's first tweet, stating that the person wasn't thrown into the street:
As soon as more information comes in, we'll update you on what's going on..@SFPD corrects earlier report: Person struck by vehicle near Haight & Octavia likely not thrown into traffic; may have been intoxicated.
