Thirsty for art? This Thursday, Mini Bar is hosting "Local Nerdz," a show featuring local artists from the Never Ending Radical Dude collective.
Founded by Jason Furie (and formerly called "Wrinkled Meat Nerd News") the group is an online art collective that is, in simple terms, "a mix between pop culture and underground art."
It began as a personal blog documenting Jason's ideas and art influenced by comics, TV shows and video games. Word got around, people started reaching out to him, and eventually it became a hub for about 20 working artists from around the country who contribute art on a regular basis. In Jason's words, Never Ending Radical Dude is "a home for like-minded friends that want an outlet, but don’t necessarily want to make their own webpage."
The show features works from local artists Jason Furie, Katie Bacigalupi, Matt DeLight, Cole Ott, Ruel Brown, Rick Lucey, Derek Hansen and Adam Cahoon. The show's opening will run from 6pm to 11pm on Thursday, April 3rd, but the artwork will be up through May 26.
Jason has exhibited before in the space, and so knows what he's working with size-wise. Most of the work submitted to the site is small enough to be scanned—many 8.5" x 11", so there's ample to space to display a number of pieces in Mini Bar's minuscule venue.
Can't make it? Check out Never Ending Radical Dude anyway. They have some really cool stuff on their site, like Marvel podcasts, videos, and some excellent pieces to nerd out to. They'll also be exhibiting a larger show at Mission Comics on May 31st, which is far enough out that if you miss this event you have no excuse to miss their next one.
