Suspect Arrested In Window-Smashing SpreePhoto: Camden Avery/Hoodline
Police arrested a suspect late Wednesday night after he sent bricks sailing through four retail storefronts.

The suspect, whose identity hasn't yet been released, was reportedly caught with his hand through the front window of Derby (which is barred), after having a crack at Ambiance, whose employees called the police and whose window was damaged but not shattered.

Police said the suspect was also involved in the bricking at Goodwill, and, we expect, the window at Ideele, now tagged with the slogan, "Fuck you, pay me."

The brick at Ambiance came through the window around 10pm, according to co-owner Donna O'Leary, and the police were called immediately after.

The brick incidents are the most directly destructive vandalism the neighborhood's seen in a while (remember the Wells Fargo incidents?), but they also highlight mounting tension between the neighborhood, itinerant law-breakers, and the local police.

Both O'Leary's partner Kieran O'Leary and Booksmith owner Christin Evans confirmed that Park Station SFPD Captain Greg Corrales has been working to address a staffing shortage. More students are expected to graduate from the police academy this summer, and Corrales is sending disproportionately more beat cops to the Haight than to other areas as a stopgap measure.
