Alternative Apparel Hosting Saturday MarketsPhoto: Rose Garrett/Hoodline
Hayes Street shop Alternative Apparel opened up 6 months ago, and most recently hosted a fundraiser for the non-profit Girls on the Run.  Now, they're looking to expand their community-minded activities by instituting a mini Saturday "farmers market" inside their retail store.

The goal is to feature "highly curated local artisanal food makers whose brand aligns with Alternative's and who share in our philosophies and values," said assistant manager Michelle Wang, who went on to explain the thinking behind the new initiative:

There is currently no farmer's market in Hayes Valley let alone businesses incorporating food and fashion. Saturday Market will be the first of its kind in a city we believe greatly appreciates the integration of multiple industries.

The idea is to have one local artisan set up in the store to showcase their product every Saturday. The inaugural market, which happened last week, featuring coffee pour-overs from Artís Coffee. Today's market features almond milk purveyor Milkman SF, and other examples of vendors lined up include Petitpot, Three Trees, Prickly Pig, SolidariTEA and more.

They currently have the months of May and June booked solid with venders, but they're always looking for additional local food purveyors. Know of anyone who fits the bill? Drop them a line at (415) 400-5011.
