The Castro Streetscape Improvement Project is trucking along with a goal to have the sidewalk portion of the improvements completed in time for Pink Saturday (June 28) and Pride in June (this includes the Rainbow Honor Walk). If you've been down in the Castro in the past few days you might have noticed the gutter has been poured on the East side of Castro Street between Market and 18th Street. Construction crews are set to start pouring cement for the gutter on the West side of Castro Street today and the sidewalks for the East side of Castro Street later in the week, all along the 400 block.
To ensure construction crews are completed with the sidewalks by Pride, crews will step up weekend work starting next weekend including adding some overnight work. We're not sure how this overnight work will sit with Castro Street residents as there are plans to do some "drilling." Hopefully this won't be too much of an interruption for sleepers and any drilling being done won't happen at 3AM!
The update from the Castro Street Improvement Project update site:
The contractor has framed and poured the new curb and gutter on the East side of the 400 block and is scheduled to begin pouring some of the sidewalk next week. We expect the sidewalk pours will begin towards the middle of next week along the East side of the 400 block of Castro.
The curb and gutter work has been completed on the Westside of the 400 block. Crews are scheduled to pour the curb and gutter along the Westside of the 500 block tomorrow.
Work on the irrigation lines continues.
Crews will work on Saturday. There won't be any construction activity on Sunday and Monday. Starting next weekend, crews will begin working Saturdays and Sundays to ensure the sidewalk widening is complete before Pride Weekend.
Starting next week, our electrical contractor will begin working overnight. It's our goal to complete the sidewalk work prior to Pride Weekend so we'll need him to work overnight for about a week or so. We suspect the overnight work won't be too much of an impact. The electrical contractor will drill some foundation holes for some of the poles. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
Thank you for your continued patience as we make improvements along Castro Street.
Never miss a story.
