Sad news for those who love milkshakes and meatloaf: Lower Haight restaurant Greenburger's will be closing at the end of May.

Owner Stefanie Greenberg tells us that it was time to call it quits, as she posted the following letter in the window of the restaurant today:

Dear Valued Customers and Lower Haight Neighbors,

It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that Greenburger’s will be closing its doors within the month.

We have enjoyed meeting and serving this amazing neighborhood, but it is time for us to move on to other opportunities. I hope that within the next couple of weeks we will see all of your smiling faces for one more meal, one more milkshake, or just a heart-felt farewell.

Your loyalty and patronage has contributed so much to our lives we can only hope we have had fraction of an impact on yours.

Best Wishes and Farewell,
Stefanie Greenberg, Owner and Founder of Greenburger's
Greenburger's opened at 518 Haight Street in March of 2011, a collaboration between Stefanie and her husband Matt Nudelman. Matt left the restaurant late last year, but Stefanie kept Greenburger's open, even adding new features like Saturday brunch service and beer and wine options in recent months.   Despite those efforts, Stefanie ultimately decided to sell the business.

A recent liquor license transfer application reveals that the new owner is Sun Hee Lee, who also runs Nara Sushi on Polk Street.  We're awaiting word from Lee about plans for the new restaurant, and will update accordingly.
