Your Alembic Progress ReportPhotos: Camden Avery/Hoodline
Wondering what's going on with the ongoing construction at Alembic? Yesterday we took a walk-through with building owner Jack Rix to see how things are coming along and to hear about when we might be able to order from the expanded menu and enjoy the newly-expanded dining room.
Here's what we found.

First, though the website teasingly suggests an expanded opening in June, Rix said this was probably unlikely. Though the building's face is complete and the new dining area (in the hidden space between Alembic and the new Second Act wall) is well underway, the kitchen still has a ways to go (below).

The new restaurant space will also feature swanky new bathrooms, which, for the moment look like this:

Rix said that he estimates construction is about halfway completed at the moment. We'll keep you updated on what that means for the timeline once we know more.

We also got a peek at the new community room in Second Act, which occupies the back of what was once the Red Vic theater. Rix said the room, which was just this week fitted with a sound system, is going to be unveiled officially early next month and will debut with local filmmakers, dancers and artists as a possible social venue.

He also, we were excited to hear, plans to use the space to screen art films and documentaries, especially work from local filmmakers. "Probably more independent films, documentaries, things you wouldn't see anywhere else," he said. "Not like Spiderman 3."

As always, we'll keep you informed about when these two exciting projects are ready for the public.
