Well here's something we didn't previously know.

Recently we hailed a taxi in the Lower Haight, and noticed the small sign above affixed to the car's dashboard.  It read:

"$100 VOMIT SURCHARGE!
Article 1100 Section 1122
PUKING INSIDE MY CAR COST YOU $100"
The bizarre illustrations, multicolored type, and lack of any further explanatory information had us skeptical.

However, it turns out this threat is legit.

According to Article 1100, Section 1124 (close!) of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Code, cab drivers do have the right to charge an extra $100 for passengers who leave noteworthy stains:

"Cleaning Fee. Drivers are authorized to collect a cleaning fee of up to $100 from any passenger who permanently stains the interior of the vehicle or who renders the vehicle temporarily unfit for for-hire passengers because of spillage of any substance such that the vehicle must be taken out of service and cleaned."
So, next time you're a little tipsy or otherwise unsettled on your cab ride home, remember to ask your driver to pull over or open a window before you lose your self control, or be prepared to fork over an extra Benjamin.

This has been your friendly Hoodline public service announcement.  Happy Saturday!
