Last night saw the official opening of the new art show "Hayes Valley Artists: plus one" at 580 Hayes Street.

As the title implies, the show is a celebration of Hayes Valley artists. Indeed, a list of the artists and the number of years they have lived in Hayes Valley can be found at the entrance to the gallery.

The "plus one" is Mark Baugh-Sasaki, a Bay Area artist with strong ties to Hayes Valley, as we reported in our recent article about the removal of the sculpture in Patricia’s Green.

The show opened on July 19 and is being produced by the Hayes Valley Art Coalition (HVAC), which managed to put it together in seemingly record time, considering the previous installation "Normal" was only removed a week or so ago.

We went down to last night's opening to see how the show was being received. The exhibition seemed very popular, with keen visitors snapping up several pieces of art. This is great news for both the artists and HVAC, as the organization will retain 10% of all sales to help finance the next sculpture in Patricia's Green.

If you have an interest in art and want to support your community, get down and check out the eclectic mix of artwork on display. There’s a tantalizing array of local paintings, photography and sculptures for your viewing pleasure.

The show will be open until August 17 every Wednesday-Sunday from 11am-5pm.
