Hello, cheetle is an independent small business run by neighborhood locals Amber Schadewald and Britt Spangler. Specializing in creating “care packs for care-free babes,” their products include a collection of goods for festival-goers and a survival kit for a night out on the town (and its aftermath).

All of the packs are geared toward women, and many are sourced from other local female entrepreneurs. We stopped by to learn more about their company and what this “cheetling” business was all about.

Amber and Britt met as Craigslist roommates about two years ago and became fast friends. It was during this time that they inadvertently first began “developing” their unique brand philosophy.

“We were pretty wild back then,” Amber told us. “There was lots of slipping under fences and getting backstage at rock shows…canoodling with all kinds of interesting characters. We had a name for that kind of behavior. We called it ‘cheetling.’”

Although hard to pin down exactly, it seems that Amber and Britt are all about promoting an adventurous spirit, fostering creative expression and, in general, holding the art of mischief as something sacred. All of this is tempered by a deep belief in cultivating a community of women and providing products that help ladies both into, and out of, a certain amount of trouble.

“We wanted to build a company based on our own experiences and lifestyles. Beforehand, we were working for corporations and toward other people's visions or lifestyles, and now we get to speak for ourselves,” said Britt.

The two officially launched their company in April 2014, and it is currently operating entirely out of their shared apartment just off Divisadero Street. Both 28 years old, Amber comes from a professional writing background, while Britt has experience in marketing. However, many of the skills they’ve needed to learn to start their business, such as building and maintaining their retail website,  have been learned along the way.

In addition to their online shop, which also features a blog, Britt and Amber host a rock and roll radio show on Mission based BFF.fm. Tune in on Fridays from 6pm–8pm to hear the two talk about shenanigans and spin “ear rippers, bangers, wavy ones, and drugg drones.”

So what, exactly, comes in these packs? The ladies took the time to open one of their neatly wrapped square boxes and show us what’s inside.

We took a look at the “come hither pack” and, true to form, it provides goods they feel a girl might need to “woo a new lover and then keep him around in the morning.” Contents include:

  • Condom by I. Condoms
  • Yoni Duster by Fat & The Moon
  • Cardamom and Cacao Massage Oil by Garden Apothecary
  • Come Hither Linen Spray by Verbena Apothecary
  • One Night Stand Potion by Dude, Sweet Chocolate
  • Teakwood and Tobacco Soy Candle by Pommes Frites Candle Co.
  • All Natural Buttermilk Pancake Mix by Hue Gah (just add water)
  • Vanilla and Butter Caramel Sauce by Hot Cakes
Sounds like a good time!

All partying aside, Amber and Britt are also very much in the business of promoting the lifestyles of other like-minded females and cultivating a community in which folks like them can thrive, both as customers and collaborators. When asked about their general feelings toward the company they are building, Amber replied:

“I’m reflective of the fond memories I have of these large all-ladies dinners we used to have. We called them ‘lady dinners’. Feeling that strong sense of support, and knowing that I could ask people of anything and I would do the same for them. Essentially, we want a cheetle network. It just feels good supporting other people doing what they love. We also want be friends with all these rad chicks.”

As far as the future goes, the girls want to keep growing their network and hope to pursue everything from building a clubhouse to starting a record label to landing their own reality TV show. But for now, the two seem quite content with what they’ve accomplished and the direction they’re heading.

“We want to see lots of cheetles running around with packs doing lovely, mischievous things and being prepared for it. We want a cheetle revolution.”
