Today: The Second Annual "Peace In The Park" EventPhoto: Peace In The Park
Looking for a new way to unplug and reconnect with your self, community and city? Try the second annual Peace in the Park event, taking place today in Golden Gate Park.

Hosted by the Brahma Kumaris Center (located on Hayes and Baker in NoPa), this free festival includes world music, dances, tai-chi, hatha yoga, educational seminars, and meditation. Food trucks will be at the ready, offering up chai and tamales. Kid-friendly, it'll also have art activities and games catering to younger participants.

Mario Reyes, one of the Brothers at the Brahma Kumaris Center, shared some of the inspiration behind this event:

“The intention of this is to create an event that is one of a kind where everyone on the community can participate in spiritual uplifting. They can participate in different activities and learn to live together as a community. There is no alcohol, no marijuana, no loud music and it is also a vegetarian environment. There will be family activities for children and art activities as well, while the adults can attend talks on spiritual development.”

Included in the lineup are Zimbabwean dance troupe Chinyakare Ensemble and Aztec group Calpulli Yaocuauhtli, as well as dancers from China, Mexico, and India.

Peace in the Park takes place at the Golden Gate Park Bandshell (in between the DeYoung and the California Academy of Sciences), today from 11am to 6pm. For a full list of events, visit Peace in the Park's program online here.
