An Update On The Urban School's Expansion PlanPhoto: The Urban School
A year has passed since the Urban School at 1563 Page Street publicly launched their plans for an expansion into the school's adjacent Saint Agnes Parrish parking lot.
Over the last year, the school has been forging ahead with the the project, and the slow gears of the city's planning commission have been turning.

The plan, released in full last year, sketches out a new facility to be built on the parking lot of the neighboring Saint Agnes Parrish, shown in rendering above. The plans are being put together by San Francisco architectural firm Pfau Long, and follow the arrangement of a 95-year lease by the school on the church's parking lots.

The new facility provides for a new gymnasium and additional classrooms, in a several-story structure that would conceivably include below-ground or street-level parking. It would allow the school to increase enrollment about 10 percent, to roughly 420 students maximum.

According to a release from the Urban School issued last month, the latest news is that the school has filed its conditional use permit with the city's planning commission. Conditional use permitting requires a future public hearing to receive input from the community before a decision is made.

The school has also conducted a preliminary traffic study on the site, with further studies to follow this fall when school is back in session. The fall semester is also when the school plans to extend the invitation to neighbors for more community meetings to discuss the proposed construction.
