Vigil Planned For Church And Duboce Assault Victim [Updated]Photo: Facebook / Feather Lynn
Friends and family members of a man who was found unconscious near Church and Duboce Sunday morning will be holding a vigil in Duboce Park this afternoon.

Police have yet to publicly reveal the man's identity, but Hoodline learned yesterday and several media outlets are now reporting that the victim was 31-year-old Bryan Higgins, a Duboce Triangle resident.

The SF Bay Guardian posted an interview last night with Higgins's husband Brian Hagerty, who reveals that Higgins has been sustained on life support since being found on Sunday. Police informed us yesterday that they believe Higgins was assaulted with a deadly weapon, and are treating the case as an attempted murder.

The Bay Guardian reports that Higgins is a member of the radical faerie community and also goes by the name Feather Lynn.  He was a familiar face at Rosenberg Deli on Noe Street, where he used to work.

"He was a good person, it's not right... he's so young," Rosenberg employee Luis Hernandez told us yesterday.

"He was a good guy. He respected everybody. He was very special. He'd talk about the Bible a lot. If you had a problem, he'd help you."

A woman named Claire who was also at Rosenberg's yesterday shared her own memories of Higgins.

"I really liked his energy and he was pushing me to get sober and he'd hold my hands and show me love. We would have cigarettes outside and he'd push me to go to AA meetings. He had some inside strength... [and] outside he was a caring person."

Employees from Jeffrey's Natural Pet Food next door put a sign in their window yesterday in response to the news about Higgins:

Meanwhile, the window of Rosenberg Deli bears a Maya Angelou quote apparently written by Higgins:

Today's vigil is set for 3:33pm in Duboce Park, "the exact moment his family wishes to remove him from life support at SF General Hospital," the Bay Guardian reports. A Facebook page has also been created for sharing memories of Higgins.

The investigation into Higgins's assault continues. Police are looking for a white male in his late 20s or early 30s who was wearing a dark gray or red hoodie at the time of the attack.  Anyone with information is asked to call the anonymous SFPD tip line at (415) 575-4444.

Update 8/14/2014, 12:30pm: Higgins was taken off life support yesterday at 3:33pm, just as the planned vigil in Duboce Park began in his honor.

KTVU reports that Higgins died shortly thereafter. His case will now be treated by police as a homicide.

Yesterday afternoon, hundreds of people gathered in Duboce Park to remember Higgins. A tent covering an altar featuring candles and burning sage was erected atop a large rainbow flag at the top of the hill, while mourners holding hands formed a large circle around the ceremony.

Supervisor Scott Wiener, who represents the area near Church and Duboce where Higgins was found, posted on his Facebook page yesterday that police "have good leads" and are "taking the investigation very seriously," though no suspects have been named yet, nor arrests made. We'll update if there are any further developments.
