Your August Black Sands UpdatePhoto: Black Sands
Back in May, we reported that upcoming Lower Haight brewery Black Sands was aiming to open at the corner of Haight and Pierce some time around August.

Well, August has now arrived, while Black Sands sadly has not.

The Black Sands team reports that some unexpected issues were discovered with sections of the building's foundation, requiring some additional structural work before the buildout can continue.  That means new plans have to be designed, and the relevant city agencies have to sign off, all of which will delay the brewery's progress.

Owner Robert Patterson tells us that the extra construction work will probably set the project back "at least three months."

"The building foundation work is outside of our hands and requires a complete total replacement," Patterson reports. "The owner is handling with his contractor/engineer...  A major setback but it's all for the best as the building needs to be made safe."

In the meantime, they've kept busy over the past couple of months by sourcing and sanitizing their equipment, refining beer recipes, and securing ingredients.  They're also designing all their brand assets, and developing that Beer For Life mobile app.  Finally, they may set up a pop-up homebrew store in the next few weeks, to keep things moving forward.

So, they're making progress, even if the physical space is a bit behind schedule.

We'll beer right back with more updates as we get 'em.
