Bacon Bacon Cafe Temporarily Shuts Down Fryer and Changes Menu [Updated]Photo: Camden Avery/Hoodline
Did you think that the saga over Bacon Bacon's savory aromas was a thing of the past? Think again. (Update: think again, again.)

After a controversial year for the Haight's famous bacon cafe, wherein neighbor pushback forced the cafe to close in May of 2013, Bacon Bacon reopened in April of this year with a full revamp that included a new ventilation system designed to mitigate the bacon smell that allegedly prompted neighbors' complaints.

Now, following yet more complaints from neighbors about the smell of bacon, Bacon Bacon has had to temporarily shut down the fryer and grill at their 205 Frederick Cafe.

Reader Jeffrey T. tipped us off to the changes, and a Bacon Bacon employee confirmed the news this morning, saying that for about another two weeks, the in-store menu will be pared down to coffee shop-style items like paninis. During that time, the Bacon Bacon team will be making some equipment changes and upgrades.

Update, 12pm: We spoke with Bacon Bacon owner Jim Angelus, who tells us that the problem isn't to do with neighbors' complaints, but rather with a permitting issue with the restaurant's hood. Though Angelus moved into the space with the existing hood in place, it seems that the permit attached to the hood, which was installed way back when, is nowhere to be found, and they've temporarily suspended grill and fryer operations until they resolve the issue. Luckily, everything is up to code, so it won't be long until they're back in action.

In the meantime, they assure us that the Bacon Bacon truck is still fully operational, and you can get your pork fix tonight at Off The Grid at Stanyan and Waller.
